Mobile Air Traffic Control Tower Trailer for Kuwait

Neat Vehicles has built its latest Articulated Mobile Air Traffic Control Tower trailer for use in Kuwait. This trailer has been built in our Nottinghamshire factory from start to finish, everything you see here has been designed and built in our workshop. We buy in axles with air suspension and weld them to our chassis which is all built in house, we paint it in our spray bay, we have our qualified electricians wire it up and pipe it up, our joiners and coachbuilders have done all the body work and internal fit out.

There are two air conditioning units built onto the balcony of the cabin to cope with the conditions in Kuwait, the balcony also has a ladder and roof access with stainless steel rails for tying off safety harnesses when accessing the antenna points. The cabin is detachable from the lifting frame and there is a built in winch as well as rollers so that the cabin can be rolled into a Hercules or similar aircraft for transportation. The trailer is also low height so that it is air transportable, the air suspension lowers and there is an air shunt button for pushing the trailer into the aircraft. The Trailer features its own extending hydraulic stabiliser legs with an auto level feature so that the cabin is stable. The hydraulic lifting mechanism is powered by an on board power pack and there are three positions the unit can be deployed in. The first is fully lowered and the hinging steps lower to the ground giving access to the inside. The second is at half height if it is decided to deploy at lower level, in this case the steps which are housed in a compartment on the trailer are attached to the end of the hinge down cabin steps and the unit is powered to half height. There are some safety locks which hydraulically come up to prevent any movement in the lifting mechanism when at the appropriate level. The unit can be deployed at full height by fitting the extension stairs and handrails to the hinge down cabin stairs and also deploying the safety locks again.

Inside the cabin is a console built by Neat which is on vibration isolators and contains 19 inch equipment racks for all the radio and other air traffic control equipment. This one is set up for two operators but it is possible to have three operators in the cabin.

There is a separate console unit in the cabin which carries the Uninterruptible Power Supply to give the console power in the event of a power failure. The trailer carries an on board 18 kva super silent generator with built in fuel tank and Auto Mains Failure feature so it kicks in if there is a main failure automatically. This can be removed and placed up to 40 metres away from the trailer. Below is a video of the trailer elevating and also a walkround video.
