18,000 Kg Expandable Learning Vehicle for Poppyscotland

Poppyscotland, a charity set up to help our Armed Forces veterans have launched their new learning vehicle, which they have named Bud to support the Scottish Poppy Appeal. The new 18 ton six wheeler built by Neat Vehicles is touring Scotland sharing stories of reflection and hope. The new vehicle will help Poppyscotland provide life-changing support for those who have served, those still serving and their families. Neat Vehicles are proud to be associated with this project and have worked closely with the project team to deliver the vehicle in time for the D-Day 75th anniversary commemorations.

The new 18,000 Kg exhibition vehicle gives the opportunity to share archive material, veterans stories and the poppies heritage. The mobile learning experience and museum will be touring Scotland’s schools inviting schoolchildren on board to look at all the artefacts, take part in poppy-making with the vehicle’s own on-board poppy making machine, producing a poppy which is a different shape to the normal poppy. With the help of audio visual aids all around the vehicle, it is literally a tour which you clock onto when you enter and sign out when you leave.

As with all Neat Vehicles products, it doesn’t end there however, the learning vehicle can be reconfigured for various scenarios, as well as touring schools, it will be attending events like the Royal Highland Show. The public will be invited on board Bud to take part in the experience. The unit has chairs, tables, cabinets etc. to make it either a classroom / presentation scenario or to make it a walk round tour.

The 10.5 metre long exhibition truck has two expandable pods which are full length on each side. The entrance pod has a hydraulic canopy which covers the double width entrance stairs, while the exhibition pod contains all the displays and cupboards. Each pod has a folding floor which folds down automatically when the pod is deployed.

The rear moulding comes up hydraulically and has a hinging set of exit stairs as well as an electrical disabled lift below it. On board generator, air conditioning, ancillary heating for travelling, automatic self-levelling and background storage heating are all features which help the artefacts, some of which are from the first world war, stay in good condition.
