National Deaf Children Society 7.5 ton Double Expandable Learning Truck

The National Deaf Childrens Society have taken delivery of the latest creation to come out of the workshops at NEAT. They wanted a vehicle which was visually stimulating to take the roadshow around to show deaf children the wide array of appliances which can be used to help them in everyday life.

The 8.3 ton DAF is built on an air suspension chassis to give  maximum ride comfort and has two hydraulically expandable areas to give a large internal area which can be enclosed for inclement days or open fronted for those rare summer days. There are internal remote colour-changing LEDS throughout and modular furniture to give a choice of set up layouts and configurations. A first on the unit is a sliding partition which hides away in the pod and slides out to form a glass wall giving a private office at the front of the vehicle.

The NEAT team won the tender for the vehicle amidst stiff competition and successfully completed IVA type approval on it for the first time with a rear mounted disabled lift through the rear bumper. another new feature is the pull out entrance steps fitted to the underside of the entrance extension.

The new vehicle has been well received by the NDCS and has commenced operations around the country.
